Get to Know Mr. Keogh

John Keogh is a new teacher and lacrosse coach here at Santa Barbara High School. Mr. Keogh is originally from Rochester, New York. He moved to Santa Barbara in August of  2019 from Hawaii where he met his wife. When asked why he decided to teach at Santa Barbara he replied, “from the moment I stepped foot on campus I knew I wanted to continue my teaching career here at Santa Barbara”. He was first hired as the boys lacrosse coach in November of 2019, and luckily a teaching position opened up for him. Before teaching here he was a business teacher at Saint Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. All of John Keogh’s role models were teachers and coaches which inspired him to pursue his current career. When he was asked how it feels to teach at a school with such a rich tradition he said, “even without students on campus this fall, there is such a great energy to this campus. I am excited to drive to work every day. To be able to teach and coach lacrosse here is a special feeling”.  He enjoys teaching because he has the opportunity to impact the world and he likes the idea of investing in young people. Mr. Keogh enjoys being physically active, exploring Santa Barbara with his family, seeing live music, and rooting on Notre Dame as well as the Buffalo Bills. If he wasn’t a teacher he would be a full-time coach, or a famous SNL character like Matt Foley played by Chris Farley.
