Green Light For California Sports

After a long and challenging year of waiting, we have received some encouraging news! On February 26th, 2021, due to the declining COVID-19 cases, the California Department of Public Health gave Santa Barbara High School student athletes something to look forward to: actually playing games for their respective sports

An abbreviated sports season will be played for the Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports. The schedules are in the process of being finalized and the Athletic Department encourages everyone to visit the SBHS website for further details.

With safety being the number one priority, there will be stringent protocols that have to be upheld such as daily temperature checks, weekly COVID-19 testing for each athlete, and daily iPass pre-certification. There have been a lot of questions regarding who will be able to attend the sporting events. Unfortunately, the guidelines for that have not been finalized.

This is exciting, especially for the seniors, as they will be able to finally have an opportunity to represent Santa Barbara High School. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions for a lot of these student athletes, and for it to finally come full circle is a glimpse of hope for many. We all hope to stay healthy not only for our community but for our athletes to have this one shot to give it their all in these uncertain times.
