The Four Agreements

After reading this book I would recommend this to anyone wanting to expand their knowledge on Toltec teachings. Toltec is a pre-Colombian Mesoamerican culture that ruled a state centered in Tula, Hidalgo, Mexico in the early post-classic period of Mesoamerican chronology (ca. 900–1521 AD). Toltec is not a religion, it could be referred to as a spiritual path, so you have to read this book with an open mind.

This book is a practical guide to personal freedom. A guide that helps teaches the readers to transcend our limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behavior patterns so we may live a fulfilling and authentic life. Once you start applying these four agreements to your everyday life you will see a big difference. It helps you make your own heaven on earth.

The first agreement is to be impeccable with your word. Being impeccable with your word is important because you won’t give false hope. Your words have so much power then we realize and it can spread like a wildfire if we let it. The second agreement is to not take things personally. Nothing others do is because of you, what others say and do is a projection of their own reality. Once I started to apply this to my daily life I started to be immune to the opinions and actions of others, I finally felt free. The third agreement is to not make assumptions, once you start to make assumptions you start to cause drama in your life. Communicating instead of assuming can help you grow as a person and also with others. Lastly, the most important agreement is the fourth one, always do your best. I think this agreement everyone should follow because it helps you avoid self-judgment and regret.

I would give this book a 5 star rating because all these agreements helped me look at my life in a different perspective. It helped me change my thinking patterns for the better. This is a good book to read any time of the day. If you are a slow reader this book is perfect because it is meant to be read at a slow pace so you can really absorb the information. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to Improve their lives or want to have a deeper understanding about the universe.
