On March 12, 2022, Santa Barbara High School will hold their first Winterfest. The dance was put together by ASB and the theme is Electric Ice. Staff nominated the Winterfest Court based on their great character, giving back to the community, or exceptional performance. On March 3, the nominees were surprised with sashes and flowers in their seminars. Voting is open to SBHS Seniors for their Winterfest Royalty.
Larry Bermudez
Larry is a member of both the Nosotros Varsity Soccer Team and AVID. He enjoys spending time with friends, listening to music, and even cooking in his spare time. He enjoys doing a bit of everything. He has always been interested in math and science and plans to pursue mechanical or electrical engineering at a top university next year.
Ryan Holguin
Ryan played left guard for the SBHS football team. He is a dedicated worker and works his hardest at any task he is assigned. He is a good student who enjoys assisting others with their homework when they require assistance. A goal of his for next year is to excel in school and on the football field at Santa Barbara City College.
Michelle Lara Payan
Michelle is a part of ASB, Dance and Sources of Strength, and she is also a mentor to students. One of her biggest responsibilities at Santa Barbara High School is mentoring students. She loves and enjoys helping students, but also loves dancing and being a part of ASB. Michelle has been dancing for 4 years now and it is one of the best decisions she has ever made, along with joining ASB. She says these activities have helped her improve her life, but she also enjoys helping others improve.
Karina Mendoza
Karina is a member of the SBHS girls Varsity soccer team, as well as AVID & PEAC, and the Athletic Training program. She spends her free time with her family and teammates, as well as eating her favorite food, steak. Karina enjoys watching sunsets with her friends, going on walks, and playing with her dog Nala.
Jenel Nguyen
Jenel has always been a hardworking student who strives to succeed academically and in the future. She fills her free time with a variety of hobbies, including dance, art, piano, and many others. She enjoys spending time with friends and family so she can crack classic dad jokes and have a nice laugh. Pandas are her favorite animal, and she enjoys In-N-Out and Cucas tortas de asada.
Emerson Steady
Emerson has been thrilled to spend his high school years in the vibrant community of artists at Santa Barbara High School. On stage, you may recognize him as the zealous worshipper of the duck in Firebringer or Billy Flynn in the upcoming production of Chicago. Offstage, he is the Editor-in-Chief of The Forge where he has worked to cover every niche of Santa Barbara High School. In all of his endeavors, including as Vice President of ASB, he hopes to make the school a kinder and more inclusive place.
