Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj are two of the most popular female rappers of our time and have paved the way for many female artists alike. Recently, drama between them has been put on blast all over social media and news outlets. What started as a public friendship between the two has now turned into public beef.
This drama started in December 2023 when Minaj released her song “FTCU” on her most recent album Pink Friday 2, with a possible diss on Megan. “Stay in your Tory Lane b****, I’m not Iggy,” which is a clear reference to the letter Iggy Azalea wrote in support of Tory Lanez. Azalea wrote a letter regarding Lanez’s sentence after the 2020 Megan Thee Stallion shooting accusations. During that time, Lanez was convicted of three felonies and sentenced to 10 years in prison after firing shots at Megan’s feet. “I guarantee to you he has significant income and work awaiting him upon release if you would kindly consider a sentence that does not require deportation,” Azalea stated in the letter.
Shortly after, Megan released her sing list “HISS” on Jan. 26, 2024 which featured a line aimed directly towards Minaj. “These h*** don’t be mad at Megan, these h*** mad at Megan’s Law,” she rapped, “I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start.” Megan’s Law is the federal law requiring law enforcement to make information available about registered sex offenders. This was directed towards Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender.
Minaj has since retaliated with the release of her newest single “Big Foot” in response. Her song, dropped on Jan. 29, criticized Megan on everything from her mothers passing to the Tory Lanez shooting. The song, containing about 10 lines of Minaj repeating the phrase “lying on your dead momma,” also includes about a minute and 20 seconds at the end of the track of Minaj speaking over no beat. “The things that you’ve lied about, even pertaining to your mom — you don’t want them out, okay?”
Although their beef is sudden, it’s not the first public drama they’ve had. They collaborated on the song “Hot Girl Summer” together back in 2019. During this time, Megan was very vocal about how she had been a fan of Minaj since she was young and had nothing but love for her. Minaj showed mutual love and it was thought that they had become friends. Not long after, Megan collaborated with female artist Cardi B on their hit song “WAP” in August 2020. With Minaj having a long history of problems with Cardi, such as Cardi throwing a shoe at Minaj in 2018 at a New York Fashion Week party, this caused Minaj to distance herself from Megan and they haven’t had much to do with each other until now.
