The 2024 baseball season is coming to an end and the 10 seniors on the team were acknowledged for their hard work over the years in a senior day celebration. The team has a 18-6 record, and secured the league title after sweeping Ventura this week.

The senior day game was against the Ventura Cougars. The Dons won 3-2, with one run from Jetner Welch, and 2 from Liam Keithley. Michael Firestone hit a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the 6th to bring Keithley home and win the game.

Seniors Michael Firestone and Liam Keithley both will be continuing their baseball careers in college. Firestone will be attending Santa Barbara City College, and Keithley will be at California Lutheran University. Both seniors are extremely excited to further their baseball and academic careers in college.

“I’m looking forward to playing at the next level and creating new relationships with a new team,” says Keithley. The thing he will miss most about high school baseball is his senior year team who he created a very strong bond with. “This was the closest I’ve ever been to a team and we had a lot of fun.”

Michael Firestone will also miss the team and the chemistry he built with his teammates this year, but he’s also, “looking forward to playing at the next level of competition and challenging myself.” As stated before, Firestone will continue to show his talents as a Vaquero next year, so make sure to show out for the future SBCC star.

Their season is not yet over as they start the playoffs this Friday with a home game at 3:15 against Mission Viejo.
