Dear Readers,
Thank you for joining us for another year of The Forge! As editor-in-chief, I feel deeply honored to be joining in the history of this school through the pages of the newspaper. Looking back on my first years here, I never could have imagined that randomly selecting journalism as my elective in freshman year would have brought me to this position. I now have the opportunity to join in the footsteps of the writers that came before me and provide a voice to the pulse of Santa Barbara High. The Forge has provided me with an outlet and the chance to work with an incredible group of people to bring together a piece of work that we are all proud of.
Being a senior holds much significance and responsibility, but this year feels especially important. As the 150th graduating class and the 100th year on this campus, every moment of this year is one that will be captured in the legacy of our school. As the 110th volume of The Forge, we hope to honor this historic moment in our lives by featuring the history of our school in each edition this year, and celebrate the new traditions associated with this unique class of Dons. Whether it’s by covering the construction plaguing our campus, getting the first scoop from our football team in post-game interviews, or featuring students’ favorite teachers, it is my hope that The Forge will capture what it means to be attending SBHS: the good moments and the bad, the issues on the top of our brain, and the memories we all collectively share.
As editor-in-chief, I hope you know that you will always have a voice in the pages of The Forge. Do not be afraid to come to me and ask for coverage on a topic you care about or to share feedback. This paper has an important legacy for our school, and I want to make sure that within the production of The Forge we are honoring this legacy and our commitment to providing a forum for discussion of the issues that matter most to SBHS. So make sure to come say hi at room 87, read The Forge, and help us to make this the best publishing year yet!
Peace out,
Mary
