As the temperature drops and summer clothing gets put away until the next season, we start to see how this year’s winter fashion trends are turning out. 

This season has seen a return to many popular styles in decades before us with y2k-inspired pieces and 90s grunge, in ways like loose-fitting clothing, patterns, and layering. One of the hallmarks of this season is a comeback to oversized, layered silhouettes, with puffer jackets, fur coats, and baggy jeans. Many are opting for sweaters and coats in warm colors like deep burgundy, navy blue, and cream to add neutrality and classic warmth into their winter wardrobes. The layering trend allows for a depth in texture, where pieces like leather jackets, crewnecks, and cropped sweaters are stacked together. 

Patterns like leopard print, camo, lace, and bows are seen in almost every closet and every Pinterest board. Bulky purses and lots of jewelry will be carried from season to season this year. 

Thrift shopping remains popular, with many gravitating towards second-hand shops to find vintage pieces. Many are even customizing their thrifted finds, adding patches or embroidery to make the clothes unique. From ‘90s style windbreakers to flare jeans, these styles are reimagined for winter with warmer layers and cozy accessories. Mini skirts with tights and cardigans are also a continuingly popular outfit. 

When it comes to footwear, chunky boots and platform shoes are a popular choice. Uggs, Doc Martens, and Frye boots are booming brands in fashion at the moment. In accessories, chunky gold jewelry, headphones, colorful stockings, and leg warmers are perfect to pair with any cool weather outfit. 

Some students are adamant about what they do/don’t want to see during the season. 

“I don’t want to see any socks over sweatpants. If I do, I will literally pants you,” said one strongly opinionated senior.

“I don’t want people to get cold legs, I’d love to see more leg warmers,” another student noted. 

Overall, winter fashion here at SBHS is all about blending comfort, nostalgia, and creativity, resulting in bold looks that reflect our generation’s style.
