On January 16, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival presented Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson with the Cinema Vanguard Award. The award honors actors who have forged their own path in the industry by taking artistic risks. Host Dave Karger sat down with Farrell and Gleeson to discuss some of their best work as well as the new movie the two star in together, The Banshees of Inisherin. The two were laid back and cheerful as they watched clips of some of their older work and answered questions about their experiences in film. Karger presented montages of each actor’s most influential work. For Gleeson, this consisted of The General, Cold Mountain, and Into the Storm, to name a few. For Farrell, the montage included clips from Tigerland, The Lobster, and The Batman. After much reflection on the earlier work of each actor, it was time to discuss the films that Gleeson and Farrell had worked on together, In Bruges and The Banshees of Inisherin. Each actor gave each other high praise along with the director for both movies, Martin Mcdonagh. After their conversation with Karger, Mcdonagh presented Gleeson and Farrell with the Cinema Vanguard Award. The event was an incredible night and provided a great opportunity to celebrate the two trailblazers for their contributions to film.
