Boys Tennis Season Wraps Up with CIF Playoffs

The Santa Barbara High School boys tennis team gave everything they had in their first round of CIF playoffs. After a close loss against Capistrano Valley High School last Wednesday, their season has come to an end, wrapping up an overall successful year for boys tennis.

Reflecting on their progress as a team, Team Coach Shane Carmody shared, “I’m proud of how far we’ve come. I didn’t think we were going to get into the main draw right away, but our record was good enough that we got to skip the wildcard round.”

The match against Capistrano Valley was a fair and competitive fight, with the Southern California opponents having a similar record and fairly even rank in their school division.

This season, the team proved their dedication by fighting until the very end. Looking ahead, the team is ready to tackle next season with newfound growth and determination.

“We grow more [when we are] trying our best and losing than we do trying our best and winning,” shared junior Logan Cochrane, who has played line one singles for the team since freshman year. “I think we’re going to do a lot better next year and make it a lot farther. I’m definitely excited for next season.”

Overall, the boys team can be proud of their transformative season and look forward to more improvement in years to come.
