Nosferatu was one of the most highly anticipated horror films of 2024. Set in the 1830s, the film centers around two lovers, Ellen and Thomas, and an unknowingly chilling affair between Ellen and Count Orlock. The film has beautiful, almost gothic cinematography and an extremely captivating storyline. Nosferstu will have you interested and unsettled the entire way through. 

Starring Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlock and Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, the acting was nothing short of phenomenal. Skarsgard was unrecognizable in his head-to-toe Count Orlock makeup. He portrayed a fresh and scary new version of Nosferatu while staying loyal to the original eariness of the iconic film. Lily-Rose Depp delivers a beautiful performance with very convincing fear and innocence. 

The film includes haunting visuals and a stunning and detailed production and costume design. Although this film is two hours long, the pacing felt perfectly timed and easy to follow along. This film is more than an exciting horror movie; it also has a multi-layered, powerful message about the repression of women.

While I will say this movie isn’t for everyone, director Robert Eggers has done a beautiful job of retelling the 100-year-old story. It leaves viewers feeling unsettled but satisfied with the intense storytelling and brilliant acting.
