The Girl’s Water Polo Team Reflects on Growth, Teamwork, and a Promising Future

“Our team is our family,” says Water Polo Team Captain Kana wolf. “We all make an effort to be there for each other.” The team’s season just closed off in the second round of CIF playing Thousand Oaks High School on February 7.

With a focus on a positive mindset and gaining speed, they are looking at a strong future. “A long-term goal for our team is to play a little bit faster because I think we’d have a lot more success as a team,” says Rose Nelley, the second team captain and three-year water polo player.

In terms of the past season, team progress was a definite highlight. Whether it’s in the pool or not, the team is tight-knit and are willing to work together on everything. “Before I felt like it was a solo act,” Wolf says. “At the end of our season we were such good players, we had so much teamwork.” They were disappointed in their loss at CIF, but believe it was one of their best games nonetheless.

The team’s overall record for the 2024-25 season was 17-15, with a league record of 3-4, and ended as fifth overall in Channel League. “We played great either way, and we’re really proud of the entire team.” Wolf says, “We keep each other’s spirits high and encourage each other, even when we’re losing a game.”

Although the season is over, the team is still dedicated to putting effort and thought into building their strength, speed, and bond for the next season. This past season they had a good amount of new players, and they’re expecting a lot more next year.
