Boys Soccer Senior Night

Soccer senior night was January 24, a home game against the Rio Mesa Spartans. This year’s varsity soccer team has seven seniors including Luca Peluffo, Alan Sanchez, Andres Arroyo, Jeffrey Lechuga, Brian Deloya Monroy, Efra Herrera Moran, and Ernesto Garcia Martinez. Compared to last year where the team had 15 seniors, (including the Goodmans) this year’s lineup was smaller. Before the game, students put down the flowers they received and went back down to the tunnel where they got ready to be called to the pitch. On their way to the pitch, they knew they had to win this game. This game was heated from the minute the referee blew the whistle. Things got intense due to one of the Rio Mesa players tackling senior Andy American football style and causing a commotion, resulting in some players getting punched. After things settled down the other team’s player got a red card and so did one of SBHS players, a senior, Brian. It was a 10 against 10 game but the Dons took the lead in the first half where a senior, Luca Peluffo, scored the first goal. In the second half, sophomore Walker Jensen scored the second goal for the Dons with a great assist from his older brother Carver Jensen. The game ended in a 2-0 win for SBHS making it a night to remember for the departing seniors.
