Being home to two of the state’s top colleges, along with proximity to LA, our town has been a hotbed of culture for years. Because of this Santa Barbara and Isla Vista are home to a number of great bands and musicians. I have made a personal mission of seeing as many as I can and have brought you some of the highlights.
Lizardsmouth
Lizardsmouth is a high energy dance-punk trio out of IV. Their songs cover topics like love, rebellion, and their infatuation with comedian Hannibal Buress. The band’s punk style and high energy make for an exciting show you don’t want to miss.

Glenn Annie
Glenn Annie is an indie pop band with sounds reminiscent of early Elton John and Harry Nielsen. Guitarist Luke Holroyd is an SBHS alumni himself. Their signature soft style and 70’s aesthetic will excite any old fashioned music lover. Described by senior Hana Sutherland as “upbeat, energetic” and “feel good.”

The Derivatives
The derivatives are a rowdy classic punk cover band. Made up of three UCSB students the band’s discography includes the likes of The Dead Kennedys, The Misfits, and Black Sabbath. With their rebellious style and love of audience interaction, any show is an event.

Noise Complaint
Noise complaint is a heavy metal masterpiece. Reminiscent of bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Death, any and all Santa Barbara metalheads should have this band in their playlist. Though energetic live, it was a pain to sit through three mediocre openers to see them.
